ST MARY THE VIRGIN

SILCHESTER

Events and News

We were to walk Sophie, the Donkey through Calleva Atrebatum, escorted by a troop of Roman Soldiers but the wet weather led us to a service in the church.

We have just had our really successful Fete at Silchester, our 50th, so the theme was "Something Gold”. All enjoyed an afternoon on the Playing Fields of the Common with Barbecue, Teas, Dancing, Music, Punch and Judy, Children's Races, Stalls, Sideshows and Games.

We welcome our new ‘house for duty’ priest, the Rev. Canon Ken Batt and his wife Linda. Ken was  licenced on the 17th June by Bishop Trevor, Bishop of Basingstoke. It was enhanced in that we were able to use our new Vestry extension and the loos were welcome!

We continue with maintenance work on fabric of this 12th century historic building and are now looking askance at the Organ!

We also continue to thank all those unsung heroes who give so much to the life in our community.
